The town of KOKKOLA here in FINLAND is an old harbour town on the gulf of Bothnia. Kokkola was founded in 1620
by King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden. Even today 20 % of town inhabitants have Swedish as their native language. You
can find history in Kokkola by taking a pleasant walk in the old town ( in the middle of town) with its museums and
hundreds of wooden houses from 17 th and 18 th centuries. From Helsinki there are daily Finnair flights (50 min) and
10 daily express trains (ca 5 h) to Kokkola.

In the "old town " you can find many charming gardens.

Venetian Evening is the traditional way to mark the end of summer season and the time when people leave their
summer cottages on the last weekend of August each year. There are torches, bonfires and fireworks along the
coastline.

The lighthouse island of Tankar is one of the small islands which are located in front of Kokkola. On the island of
Tankar there is a very small fishermen's chapel, built in 1754. The ornithological observatory, also built on the island,
offers an excellent opportunity to do some bird-watching.

The small bay in front of our summer cottage has got a vinter covering. Winter 2008.
